Late this morning, we were relieved to find out that our bags had arrived. We picked up our bags and our car and headed to Ostia Antica; the harbor city of ancient Rome. This is part of the more modern, but still incredibly old village:
Then, we headed to the real ruins and saw the necropolis, or cemetery, and its tombs and mausoleums.
We saw the ancient baths, apartments, marketplace and amphitheater.
Finally, we stopped in the museum to see the collection of scupltures.
After Ostio, we headed away from Rome and toward Lake Bracciano in Trevignano Romano. We stopped by the lake and had a late lunch, and then headed up to the top of an extinct volcano to our house, Piamola in Bassano. It is a beautiful old house with incredible gardens, a view of the lake, and all the way to the sea. It was getting dark when we got here, and raining, so not many pictures, but hoping for some sun tomorrow.
This is the house
and we hope we can explore the acres and acres of gardens tomorrow.
